After reading this article about the attempted terrorist attack in Dallas, http://bit.ly/19iMgx, I realize how vulnerable Americans are.
Contrary to a popular belief that we are "racist", Americans really are accepting of people of differing cultural back grounds and skin colors. My daughter lives in Dallas. She is 27. Many of her friends are from different countries, are different races, and she accepts them all. Not only accepts them, but embraces their differences. Every person is an encyclopedia into human culture and nature. This should be celebrated.
The man who planned to bomb the building in Dallas is referred to as a nice guy. Some even thought he was from Texas even though a Muslim and Jordanian. This acceptance shows most Americans, even Texans who are thought to be "redneck" are not judgemental. American for the most part want to "live and let live." Of course this is not how we are portrayed in today's popular media.
Statements from this man show that he hates America and wants to hurt American citizens. But in his day to day life he listened to rock music, worked at a local restaurant, smoked a little, drank a little, and generally fit into his surroundings. He was known to his friends as "Sam". No one knew of his radical philosophy. Nothing in his personal life or demeanor suggested that he wanted to blow up a building full of innocent American people doing what most do...working to pay bills.
This should make us all wonder, who else is plotting evil while smiling at us, and saying all the right things? I did not prepare my children for a world of this sort....one where you cannot trust your judgement of your neighbors, where you must always be on guard. We are losing the America we loved, and our President and Congressmen are facilitating this shift.
It is very difficult to reconcile the two sides of this man's personality. Many in our own government and media have given a foothold to terrorist by advocating an image of an arrogant and cold American culture who cares about nothing but rock stars and nice cars. This is not true. But those that do this want personal glory, power and attention. They do not care about the general welfare of America.
We do not live in harmony anymore in this country. Even our own president says countries have a right to disdain America. This is a sad day for those of us who come from generational families who have fought, taught, studied, and believed in an America that actually stood as a beacon of freedom , honor, and truth for all nations. A nation where we could 'live and let live" without distrusting our neighbors, and fearing harm from them.
We are not the enemy.
But we are the victims.
Random rantings from a common sense approach to social issues. Still clinging to my guns and my religion, I am trying to understand the universal laws of a civilized society. As a descendant of five generations of Texans, I have a strong legacy bred into me of individual freedom and independent living.
